 The Project:Green Lincs is a fully funded programme designed to support small and medium sized companies to improve their environmental performance. We aim to help companies to evaluate their environmental performance and implement controls to make improvements. The project will run until October 2008. In addition, the project is committed to signposting participants to other sources of support available within the region. Case Study:Kier Eastern, provide construction services across the East of England. The company part of the Kier Group, achieved certification to the international standard for environmental management - ISO 14001 in 2004. As part of the implementation process Kier Eastern identified a number of risks were generated as a result of contractor and supplier operations. As a result, the business set about developing a supply chain improvement programme utilising Easy Access (a construction specific approach to BS8555 implementation.) A supply chain conference was used to launch the initiative. Here, WYGE explained the benefits of environmental management and the BS8555 approach to the delegates. Many companies expressed and interest and as a result WYGE and Kier joined forces to deliver BS8555 /easy access training to Phase 3. To date Kier have provided training to X No. suppliers.
